league of women voters
The League of Women Voters of Seattle is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League is Non-Partisan
As an organization, the League does not support or oppose political parties or candidates. And, because they represent America's voice, the League is respected by American citizens.

The League is Political
The League takes action on selected governmental issues based on a firm foundation of careful study

The League is Committed
The League is dedicated to encouraging informed citizen participation in the political process.

The League is Grassroots
They actively solicit our members' opinions and study all viewpoints before we take action on an issue.

The League Focuses on Citizen Action
The League is a volunteer, member-directed organization. Any citizen over eighteen may become a member of the League. Joining the Seattle League automatically confers membership at state and national levels and with that membership comes the opportunity to work on local, state, regional and national issues.

The League Studies Issues
The League arrives at its positions through research, study and a process of member agreement. As soon as a new issue is chosen, members go after the facts. They draw on a variety of pro-con materials, develop their own resources, turn to experts and public officials for information, directly observe facilities and institutions and draw the community into the decision-making process through public meetings, surveys and media coverage. Research materials are produced and mailed to each member, who then may take part in their unit discussion. Each member then has the opportunity to express an opinion and take part in the unit consensus. Results of the unit meetings are compiled, and discussed at a League Board meeting. Consensus is arrived at and becomes the basis of League position and action.
