The Welfare Rights Organizing Coalition (WROC) is made up of low
income and poverty allies whose purpose is to empower low income
people
to impact welfare policy
where it is made at the legislature and state agency and where it
is implemented at the local welfare office. WROC's goal is to create
a social welfare system that is more responsive to the real needs
of low- and no-income families. They demand that the system treat
people fairly, and with dignity and respect. WROC offers the following
services:
- A chance to be a part of a statewide effort to improve welfare
and family policies.
- Involvement in the national discussion about welfare and poverty
issues.
- Shared resources and skills with other parents.
- Leadership skill development.
- Volunteer opportunities.
- Current information on changes in the welfare system.
- Referrals to volunteer legal advocates to assist recipients in
fair hearings.
- Information and referral to community resources.
- WROC newsletter with useful information on related low income
issues.
