The latest addition to the Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center’s
family of services is the Deaf
Services Program. Working closely
with other nonprofit, educational and government agencies that serve
Deaf and Deaf-Blind individuals, the Center has been examining community
needs in the development of this program.
The following are the six primary areas being addressed in this
bold new program:
- Fostering collaboration through quarterly focus groups and ongoing
best practices roundtables with agency and community leaders.
- Developing leadership opportunities and training for Deaf youth.
- Offering basic sign language classes for the community to better
communicate with Deaf and hard of hearing friends, family, customers
and colleagues.
- Creating employment services, professional training and development
for individuals who are Deaf and hard of hearing.
- Assisting businesses in better understanding and addressing the
needs of their constituents with hearing loss.
- Community support, education and awareness about the daily issues
faced by those with hearing loss.
