Deaf Services & the Community Coalition
The latest addition to the Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center’s family of services is the Deaf Services Program. Working closely with other nonprofit, educational and government agencies that serve Deaf and Deaf-Blind individuals, the Center has been examining community needs in the development of this program.

The following are the six primary areas being addressed in this bold new program:
  1. Fostering collaboration through quarterly focus groups and ongoing best practices roundtables with agency and community leaders.
  2. Developing leadership opportunities and training for Deaf youth.
  3. Offering basic sign language classes for the community to better communicate with Deaf and hard of hearing friends, family, customers and colleagues.
  4. Creating employment services, professional training and development for individuals who are Deaf and hard of hearing.
  5. Assisting businesses in better understanding and addressing the needs of their constituents with hearing loss.
  6. Community support, education and awareness about the daily issues faced by those with hearing loss.
