The Hearing, Speech & Deafness
Center (HSDC) is excited to announce the receipt of a $90,000 grant
from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to expand the Parent-Infant
Program (PIP). PIP is a resource for families with children, birth
to three years old, who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
HSDC will use the grant to support all aspects of PIP including
basic diagnostic, education, therapy and support services. The funding
will also allow HSDC to absorb increases in enrollment and create
new program elements. The grant will be distributed in three annual
installments.
One new element will be the expansion of PIP to serve preschool
age children. Planning will take place over during the next year,
and preschool age children will be enrolled beginning in the fall
of 2006. HSDC is happy to announce that this enhancement of PIP services
is the direct result of the comments and suggestions of parents who
appreciate PIP, and want it to offer even more.
The new funding will allow HSDC to continue offering PIP's long-term,
personalized care to the community – at no charge.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (www.gatesfoundation.org)
works to promote greater equity in four areas: global health, education,
public libraries, and support for at-risk families in Washington
state and Oregon. The Seattle-based foundation joins local, national,
and international partners to ensure that advances in these areas
reach those who need them most. The foundation is led by Bill Gates’s
father, William H. Gates, Sr., and Patty Stonesifer. |
