The Fitting Process
If the results of your hearing test confirm a hearing loss, you may benefit from the use of a hearing aid(s). One of our audiologists will discuss your hearing problem with you and, depending upon your decision, offer complete hearing aid services.

Medical Clearance Statement
Good health practice requires that a person with a hearing loss be medically evaluated by a licensed physician (preferably an otologist or otolaryngologist) before purchasing a hearing aid. The purpose of a medical evaluation is to assure that all medically treatable conditions that may affect hearing are identified and treated before the hearing aid is purchased.

Persons under eighteen years of age are required by state law to have a medical evaluation and medical clearance specifically from an otologist prior to being fitted with a hearing aid even if it is not their first hearing aid. A fully informed adult may sign a waiver statement declining the medical evaluation for religious or personal reasons that preclude consultation with a physician. The exercise of such a waiver is not in the client's best health interest and its use is discouraged.

Fitting Procedure
If you decide to be fit with a hearing aid, our audiologists will make an impression of your ear. From the impression, an individually fitted earmold will be manufactured for a behind-the-ear or in-the-ear hearing aid. The hearing aid selected will depend on the type and degree of your hearing loss, as well as other pertinent factors. At the Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center we sell most brands of hearing aids. Following the earmold impression, the hearing aid will be ordered from the factory. You will be fit with the hearing aid(s) appropriate for your particular hearing loss in approximately two to three weeks. The hearing aid fitting appointment takes approximately sixty to ninety minutes. Following the fitting, a recheck appointment will be made for two weeks into the trial period. There is a thirty-day trial period in which to return the aid(s) if you are not satisfied.
