speech-Language pathologists |
|
|
A speech-language pathologist is the professional
who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language,
and related disorders in children and adults. Speech-language pathologists
receive extensive training in normal communication development and
are taught to recognize, diagnose and treat a variety of conditions
that interfere with a person’s ability to communicate effectively.
Some of the areas that speech-language pathologists frequently treat include articulation and
phonological problems (difficulty pronouncing certain sounds and sound
patterns), stuttering, voice disorders, and a
variety of language delays and disorders. In addition, many speech-language
pathologists receive additional training to work with learning disabilities,
reading disorders and swallowing disorders. |
